Green coffee
Organic coffee, once arrived at our roasting, is stored more than 7 meters underground, protected from heat and standard coffees.
For us, the price of coffee on the stock market is only an indication. We work with exporters, so no purchase on the stock market, to avoid loss of quality.
It can be fixed directly with the producer or a cooperative permanently or temporarily. After that we have to go through authorized exporters in the countries to export the coffee to a European port, and from there we recover the coffee to store it in our cellar. It can also be purchased directly from importers specializing in the search for exceptional coffee.
Depending on the quality and quantity of the coffee crop, the price of coffee can vary, and we adapt.
In order to get to the heart of our roasting workshop, organic coffee must arrive at customs with organic certifications. Each batch loaded must be identified by an individual certification.
The prices of green coffee are increasing, due to several factors:
1. Drought in Brazil at the start of 2021
2. A wave of frost hit the Brazilian plantations in July 2021 -> this could lead to a loss of 6 million bags for the next harvest
3. Colombia faces political conflicts -> it disrupts the country's harvest, import and export.
4. The covid crisis has impacted closed “coffee” places, thus generating a sharp drop in demand, and therefore an increase in prices.
So roasters like us are impacted by these price increases. So we have to readjust our prices.
